Training & background:
Mr Ballaro has been a full time NHS Consultant Urologist since 2008 and is the Lead Consultant for Urology at King George and Queens Hospital. He is highly experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of all urological problems and has a major surgical interest in the management of kidney stones. Indeed, he is consistently one of the highest volume stone surgeons in London, and his surgical outcomes are amongst the best in the country (National Surgical Outcomes for Kidney stone removal NHS Choices website). In his practice at Holly House Hospital he offers all treatments for kidney stones.
Mr Ballaro provides a comprehensive urology service dedicated to offering the most suitable procedure to patients on an individualised basis. He is supported by a professional on-line practice management team, which enables easy patient access to results and also offers follow-up medical advice by email.
In terms of training Mr Ballaro qualified from The Royal Free Hospital Medical School, London and undertook basic surgical training in Oxford. He achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of London in 1999, and after being awarded both a Masters Degree in Urology and MD research degree from The Institute of Urology at University College London, he completed higher urological training on the North London Training Scheme. He received further advanced training in complex stone surgery and laparoscopy from nationally and internationally recognised experts. He is entered on the GMC Specialist Register and a Member of The British Association of Urological Surgeons.
In addition to his clinical interests, Mr Ballaro enjoys Urological Education and has a research interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques and the basic science of bladder dysfunction. Relating to this he has over fifty publications and was awarded a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a recognised London Deanery Trainer of surgeons at all levels, and is co-author of the latest edition of the standard medical student textbook of urology ‘Lecture Notes in urology’.
