About
Mr Matthew Hearth is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital. He specalises in joint reconstruction of the lower limb, specifically disorders of the hip and knee. This includes performing joint replacement (hip and knee), and revision of joint replacements. He also performs arthroscopic surgery to both the knee and hip. In the hip, this will involve the treatment of impingement syndrome of the hip. In the knee, it involves the treatment of meniscal tears, ligament injuries and cartilage regeneration techniques.
Mr Hearth's main areas of interest are: Lower limb trauma, revision surgery (orthopaedic), knee surgery, arthroscopy, hip replacement surgery, hip disorders and sports injuries.
Mr Hearth’s main research interests lie in Rapid Recovery following joint replacement. This technique controls post-operative pain such that patients generally are able to rehabilitate much quicker, usually leading to a much reduced hospital stay. As such, he is the Orthopaedic lead for this project in his NHS post; in addition, he is on the UK advisory board for Rapid Recovery with a major medical company.
